Digimon World Egg Guide: Which Egg Should You Pick?

Blue is my overall pick, but Pink wins if I'm sticking to normal evolution. Here's how I rank all four eggs in Digimon World, which partners make each one worth choosing, and the evolution charts to help you plan your next run.

Give me Coelamon with Poison Claw and Ice Statue and I’m happy to stay at Champion for a while. That’s the sort of partner I want from an egg in Digimon World, somebody I enjoy using while I work through File Island.

You can also watch my Digimon World egg-ranking video on YouTube.

Blue is my overall pick. I like Elecmon and Penguinmon, it has several of my favorite Champions, and its special Devimon route can lead to Megadramon.

Pink wins if I’m sticking to normal evolution. Palmon, Betamon, and Coelamon make it easy to recommend, and it still reaches my three favorite Ultimates.

Digimon World Egg Rankings

My rankEggMain reason to choose it
1Blue Striped EggGarurumon and Bakemon, good Rookies, and the option of pursuing Devimon.
2Pink Spotted EggPalmon or Betamon, followed by excellent Champions including a normal Coelamon route.
3Green Spotted EggGreymon, Garurumon, Birdramon, and Centarumon. I like the Champions much more than the Rookies.
4Orange Striped EggBiyomon, Birdramon, and several routes to Phoenixmon, plus all three king Ultimates.
Special evolutions count in this ranking. Evolution items and Kunemon are excluded.

How I Ranked the Eggs

I’m combining my Rookie, Champion, and Ultimate rankings, with Champions counting the most. You’ll spend a lot of time with them, especially while learning the game. A partner who feels slow or awkward can make that part drag.

My three king Ultimates are Megadramon, Piximon, and HerculesKabuterimon (H-Kabuterimon). Megadramon is my number one, and the Ultimate tier list explains the rest of that order.

I’m assuming the useful techniques are already learned. If you’re still missing Ice Statue, a Digimon who can equip it will need you to unlock it first.

I start with each egg’s usual two Rookies and include their normal and special routes. Special transformations that rely on chance get less credit than a comparable partner I can raise normally.

Evolution items are out, and Kunemon is the one special-evolution exception. Every egg can reach him, so he gives all four the same extra Rookie branch. I’m comparing what their original pairs can reach.

#1 White egg with curved blue stripes from Digimon World.
Blue stripes; hatches into Punimon.

My overall pick.

Garurumon is S-tier for me, and Bakemon is one of my favorite Champions. Both come from Blue’s normal tree, so I’d have a good reason to pick this egg even if I never attempted a special evolution.

Garurumon and Frigimon can use Ice Statue, while Bakemon gets Megalo Spark. Kokatorimon is underrated, Whamon is solid, and I have several partners worth training for.

Elecmon ranks toward the top of my Rookie list. Penguinmon has good techniques and useful status effects too, which makes the choice between them much easier for me than Agumon or Gabumon.

I don’t care for Leomon here, and Mojyamon’s knockdown recovery drives me nuts. I’m waiting for him to get up when I want to be attacking. Those are the two I’d be least interested in raising.

Devimon adds the route to Megadramon

Devimon is my number-one Champion. Elecmon can reach him through Angemon, although Angemon has to lose a life under the right conditions and the transformation can fail.

That makes him less dependable than Pink’s Coelamon. He’s still a partner I want badly enough to count in Blue’s favor, especially since he can become Megadramon afterward.

The route: Elecmon → Angemon → Devimon → Megadramon. Angemon to Devimon is the special evolution; the other steps are normal evolutions.

Blue already reaches Piximon and H-Kabuterimon normally, so Devimon completes its access to all three kings. MegaSeadramon and SkullGreymon are other Ultimates I rate highly.

I put Blue ahead of Pink because it adds Devimon to Rookies and Champions I already like. If arranging a death evolution sounds like a pain in the ass, I’d pick Pink.

#2 White egg with pink spots from Digimon World.
Pink spots; hatches into Yuramon.

Pink Egg

Best for normal evolution.

Palmon / Betamon

Poison Claw and Ice Statue on Coelamon

Coelamon gives me Poison Claw and Ice Statue on a small, responsive Champion. Poison Claw comes out quickly enough to interrupt attacks and can poison the enemy. Ice Statue hits hard and can stun.

That makes him very good at stopping an opponent from getting much done. I rate him above plenty of Ultimates, and I’d happily keep using him at Champion.

Pink reaches him through normal evolution. Once I’ve met the requirements, I can spend time fighting with Coelamon without relying on a special transformation.

Want to keep Coelamon? Choose Pink’s normal route. Blue’s special route immediately continues into MegaSeadramon, so it won’t give you time to play as Coelamon.

Palmon and Betamon make the early game enjoyable

Palmon already gets Poison Claw at Rookie, so I can start using that quick interruption and poison before she evolves. Betamon has Ice and electric techniques, and I’m happy to play as either of them.

At Champion, Seadramon and Kuwagamon are excellent too. I don’t need to be set on Coelamon to find a route I’d enjoy from Pink.

It also reaches all three kings, and Coelamon can become MegaSeadramon when I’m ready to evolve him. That’s a particularly appealing path for me because I rank both forms so highly.

Pink is my strongest recommendation for normal evolution. The Rookie pair is good, there’s a lot I like at Champion, and I still have my favorite Ultimates available.

#3 White egg with green spots from Digimon World.
Green spots; hatches into Botamon.

Green Egg

High ceiling, low floor.

Before Rookie

Greymon is worth choosing an egg for

With the right training and techniques, Greymon can finish the game at Champion. He’s one of my S-tier picks, and Green is the egg I’d choose to get him.

Garurumon and Birdramon are top tier too. Centarumon is excellent, Ogremon is solid, and Meramon deserves more credit than I’ve given him before. His techniques are good enough that I no longer put him with Green’s worst options.

Green won my community poll with 41% of the vote. I can see the appeal, that’s a lot of Champions I’d want.

Agumon and Gabumon drag it down

They’re my least favorite Rookie pair. Agumon has decent techniques and is perfectly usable, I just prefer most of the others. Gabumon is last on my Rookie list, and he makes the early fights feel harder than they need to.

Tyrannomon, Monochromon, and Drimogemon are Champions I’d avoid as well. Tyrannomon is easy to qualify for through ordinary training, so I pay attention to his requirements when aiming for somebody else.

That’s why I call Green high ceiling, low floor. I’m excited about some of its partners and have very little interest in others.

Megadramon is its only one of the three kings, with SkullGreymon another good Ultimate option. Orange has more of my favorite Ultimates, but Green’s normal Champions are strong enough to put it ahead. I’d rather spend that stage with Greymon, Garurumon, Birdramon, or Centarumon.

#4 White egg with curved orange stripes from Digimon World.
Orange stripes; hatches into Poyomon.

Orange Egg

Excellent Ultimates, more partners I avoid.

Before Rookie
Poyomon → Tokomon
Your starting pair
Patamon / Biyomon
Which kings can it reach?
Megadramon, Piximon, H-Kabuterimon

Poyomon grows into Tokomon, then Patamon or Biyomon. The remaining columns show this egg’s Champion and Ultimate options. View full-size chart (new tab).

Phoenixmon is where I’d start when considering Orange. Several of its Champions can reach her, and it also has routes to Megadramon, Piximon, and H-Kabuterimon. The Ultimate selection is excellent.

Biyomon makes a good start toward it. I like using her Fire and Air techniques, and Birdramon is a strong next step. I’d be happy following that branch.

Airdramon deserves more attention, and Kabuterimon has poison and stun options I like having in a fight. Kokatorimon and Ogremon are other Champions I’d willingly raise.

Devimon is available here too: Patamon → Angemon → Devimon. It uses the same special death evolution as Blue, with the same conditions and chance of success.

I dislike too many of the earlier partners

Patamon’s techniques are good, his movement is what bothers me. The hopping feels awkward, and I’d rather use Biyomon even before thinking about what either one becomes.

Unimon is frustrating for a similar reason. He has Megalo Spark, then spends ages recovering from a knockdown or trotting around. I want him to use the damn attack.

Leomon, Drimogemon, and Tyrannomon don’t interest me much either. I can train toward the Champions I like, but I end up ruling out a fair amount of this tree.

That leaves Orange fourth. Its Ultimates are better than that position suggests, and Biyomon into Birdramon is a route I’d enjoy. I prefer more of the other eggs’ Rookie and Champion choices.

Before Trying the Special Evolutions

Devimon and the special Coelamon route both depend on a chance-based trigger. Check these conditions before planning around either one.

Special formHow it can happenRoute details
DevimonAngemon loses a life with discipline at 50 or below. The transformation has a 50% chance.Blue reaches Angemon from Elecmon; Orange reaches him from Patamon. Both can pursue Devimon, who can later become Megadramon.
CoelamonPraise or scold Whamon or Shellmon at an evolution counter of exactly 200 hours. There is a 30% chance. The special Coelamon immediately evolves into MegaSeadramon. Pink’s normal Coelamon route is the one to use if you want to keep playing as that Champion.
Conditions from SydMontague’s special evolution research.

Blue reaches Whamon and Shellmon through Penguinmon. Those can attempt the special Coelamon evolution, but Garurumon, Whamon, and Shellmon can also reach MegaSeadramon normally. See the normal evolution tables for those routes.

Egg and Evolution Questions

Does picking the right egg guarantee the evolution?

No. The egg determines your starting branches, and you still need to meet the requirements for each evolution. SydMontague’s evolution planner is useful for checking a route before training.

Do I need Green if I want Garurumon?

Both Blue and Green can reach Garurumon. I prefer Blue’s Rookies, so that would be my choice if Garurumon were the goal.

Can any Champion reach the Ultimates listed for its egg?

No, each Champion has its own options. The Ultimates listed on an egg’s card are available across the whole tree, so you need the right Champion branch for the one you want.

Which Egg Should You Pick?

I’d take Blue for its normal partners and the Devimon option, or Pink if I wanted to keep the run to normal evolution. Green is still the choice for Greymon, and Orange is worth considering if you’re aiming for Phoenixmon.

Which Digimon makes the choice for you? I’d like to hear the case for some of the partners I don’t enjoy using, especially Unimon. Somebody must be having a better time with him than I am.
